Tuesday September the 30th 1851 the first part of theas 24 h strong breeses from the N.N.W. laying up W by the wind middle part nwne moderat at 7 A.M. got Sight Long 21=08 latter part fresh gales from N.W. Clear weather [tack?] one or twice saw a sail to windward and when we tacked the last time which was to the Westward the sail to windward [wore?] ship and run down for us. So end theas 24h Lat 34=43 October the 1st 1851 the first part of theas 24 h pleasant gales from the N heading up by the wind W.N.W. hauled up the mainsail a hove back our main topsail and topgalliant sail to the mast for the Ship [Hearild?] of N.B to speek us. She is commanded by Capt Sloacom he has 65 Bbls spurm and had seen whales six times. At midnight gentle breeses and good weather at 8 A.M. a sail in sight three points forward our lee bean headed to the N.E. and we wer headed W.N.W. clost haul the wind at N when she was about leeward of us She tacked to the W. laying up about the same as we are laying up. So ends theas 24 yours Lat 34=12 [in margin] at 8 A.M. got sight Long 21=43

Thursday Oct 2nd / 51 theas 24 h commence with gentle breeses from the N with fine and pleasant weather the Brig (before mentioned to leeward) [squirined?] of before the wind, and we thinking that she might have raised whale, [squirined?] of after her for about one houre, she still keeping the same courses we hauled up by the wind lay up W.N.W. another sail in sight of our weather bows at 3P.M. She spok us [&?] proved to be the Union of Provincetown 5 months out Clean at 6 P.M. took a squall from NE and had a fresh breese through th [in margin] night at 7 A.M. got sight Long 20=55 fresh gales and ruged weather the latter part laying up SE. so ends theas 24 h Lat 33=48
